The UniServity Online Learning Awards are now closed! This year we had an overwhelming amount of entries from schools from all around the world and we had the hard task of picking out the winners, runners-up, highly commended and commended entries!

    Matt Boot - Grappenhall Heys Primary School, Warrington
    Congratulations to Matt Boot, an Advanced Skills Teacher (AST) at Grappenhall Heys Primary School who has been awarded the UniServity Learning Platform Awards for Excellence 2009 'Teacher of the Year' Award for his tireless and outstanding innovation of the use of the Learning Platform in his own teaching and in connecting his school to others locally and worldwide, for children's learning and Teachers' Professional Development. Matt identifies opportunities for children, families and colleagues to learn through purposeful, targeted activities using the Learning Platform; ensuring the possibilities are explored and achieved, facilitating high impact lifelong learning for all those he works with.

    Elizabeth West - Guyer High School, Texas
    In less than a year since the adoption of the UniServity cLc (connected Learning communities) Learning Platform at Guyer High School, student Elizabeth West has demonstrated outstanding use of her ePortfolio learning journal to manage her own learning. Her achievements have been recognised and showcased around the world as an outstanding example of student led learning. Elizabeth is the epitome of a 21st Century Learner, using the social learning tools of the Learning Platform to take her learning to a new level.
  • Winner: Mobile Collaborative Learning
    Blackburn with Darwen Primary School Cluster
    Blackburn with Darwen Local Authority's e-Learning service has developed an exciting 'Ultra Mobile Learning Project', which is making a significant impact on when and how learners learn. Seven primary schools are working collaboratively using the UniServity cLc (connected Learning communities) Learning Platform and ultra mobile PCs to extend learning beyond the traditional classroom walls. Learners from Year 1 to 5 have the opportunity to take the mobile PCs home to explore the benefits of collaborative learning and share their experiences with their peers and teachers using the Learning Platform blog and forum tools.

    Grappenhall Heys Primary School, Warrington
    Learners at Grappenhall Heys Primary School lead the personalisation of their own learning experiences through opportunities provided by their teachers using the UniServity cLc (connected Learning communities) Learning Platform. Matt Boot and Vicky Jones lead by example to create a dynamic and empowering learning environment. Learners are encouraged to differentiate and explore their activities through wikis, blogs, forums, podcasts in shared areas and within their ePortfolio, with clear directed guidelines from their teachers to ensure focus on key learning objectives, progression and attainment.

    Grays School, East Sussex
    The team at Grays School are clearly unified in their vision for achieving the highest levels of engagement and attainment for all children, staff and families within a whole school learning community. Led by their award winning and inspiring Headteacher Christine Terrey, staff, children and families have been using the UniServity cLc (connected learning communities) Learning Platform to support learning activities within and beyond the class, at home and in the wider school community, underpinning and reinforcing the curriculum provision, extending learning and raising attainment.

    Horndean Infant School, Hampshire
    Horndean Infant Schools vision is that learning is for everyone - anytime, anywhere. The school has worked closely as a team to engage children, families and the wider school community through their development of the UniServity cLc (connected Learning communities) Learning Platform. Led by outstanding Headteacher Becky Greenhalgh, the school has used their learning platform to achieve goals within their school development plan. This has ensured a clear strategy, action plan and measurable impact on learning results within the school.

    Kiangsu - Chekiang College, (International Section) Hong Kong
    Teachers at Kiangsu - Chekiang College have been using the UniServity cLc (connected learning communities) Learning Platform to create a culture of independent learning with students being encouraged to take increasing amounts of personal responsibility for their own learning. In order to drive cLc usage, teachers embarked on a series of projects to capitalise on the potential offered by the cLc for social constructivist learning. The "KCCIS Hong Kong Idol" collaborative project, a school-wide variant of the global music reality TV show, has captured the imagination of the whole school.

    Maiden Erlegh School, Wokingham
    The team at Maiden Erlegh School have continued their creative approach to using the UniServity cLc (connected Learning communities) Learning Platform to bring the wider school community closer. Through a comprehensive transition project, and building links with other schools within and beyond their local authority area, the team led by Parras Majithia, have empowered students to lead their own learning, benefitting from the links, communications and collaboration with other students and teachers.
  • Winner: A 21st Century Learning Environment
    Red Hill C.E.Primary School, Worcestershire
    In less than 1 academic year after Red Hill C.E. Primary School selected the UniServity cLc (connected learning communities) Learning Platform, teaching and learning has been transformed. The school has embraced the full potential of the Learning Platform with the vision and support of the school leadership, teachers, learners, parents and the extended school community. Eve Robson, has taken the role of lead teacher for adopting the Learning Platform and providing learners with new 21st Century opportunities for learning. The school has quickly become the model for successful Learning Platform implementation in Worcestershire and beyond.     Sandbach School, Cheshire
    Sandbach School has focused on developing interactive learning and teaching using the UniServity cLc (connected Learning communities) Learning Platform as a vehicle for engagement, creativity and innovative practice. Andrew Sykes, the school's resident cLc coach, supported by the ICTAC (ICT Across the Curriculum) group spearheaded by Darren Bootherstone, have led the way in personalising learning by creating out-of-hours learning opportunities and enhancing levels of engagement at the school.

    Tideway School, East Sussex
    Building Schools of the Future poses many challenges for schools; not least of which how to maintain and improve standards through a time of many changes. The school is one step ahead having had to rebuild their site due to a severe arson attack, and to ensure that student's learning was not at risk, used their UniServity cLc Learning Platform to provide continuity and create innovative learning opportunities. Led by an exemplary innovator; Assistant Headteacher Jim Fanning, the school has created a true connected learning community online and shown just what an impact pedagogical use of the cLc Learning Platform can have on learning.

    Weston Village Primary School, Cheshire
    Learners at Weston Village Primary School are enjoying a wide range of extended learning opportunities with the UniServity cLc (connected learning communities) Learning Platform. The school team, led by Jan Webb, have been looking carefully at their curriculum planning and school improvement priorities and using these to identify new opportunities that the Learning Platform facilitates. Children have embraced the opportunities with great enthusiasm, their imaginations being fired up by being able to communicate with children from another country, sharing ideas, information and friendships and even a virtual school trip.
